What Is Fractionated Coconut Oil? Benefits, Uses & Why You Need It

ree

Fractionated coconut oil? You might be thinking, "Wait, isn't that just regular coconut oil?" Not quite! This is one ingredient that deserves its own spotlight, and once you understand what makes it special, you'll see why we're passionate about it.

Fractionated coconut oil is derived from regular coconut oil, but it goes through a process called fractionation. This means the long-chain fatty acids are separated out, leaving only the medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). The result? A lightweight, non-greasy oil that stays liquid even in cool temperatures and never solidifies like regular coconut oil does in your cupboard.

Our fractionated coconut oil is sourced from sustainably grown coconuts in tropical regions including the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Dominican Republic. The oil is extracted through a gentle process that preserves its beneficial properties while creating that signature silky texture.

Random Fun Fact The scientific name for coconut palm is Cocos nucifera, where "nucifera" means "nut-bearing" in Latin. Coconuts aren't actually nuts at all—they're drupes (like peaches and cherries)!

3 Main Benefits of Fractionated Coconut Oil:

1. Lightweight Moisture Without the Grease Unlike regular coconut oil that can feel heavy and clog pores, fractionated coconut oil absorbs quickly into skin and hair without leaving a greasy residue. It's perfect for those who want hydration but struggle with heavy oils. Studies show it creates a protective barrier that locks in moisture while allowing skin to breathe.

2. Antimicrobial & Skin-Soothing Properties Fractionated coconut oil contain acids that have natural antimicrobial properties. This makes it wonderful for acne-prone skin, as it can help balance the skin's microbiome without causing breakouts. It's also gentle enough for sensitive skin as like most of our carrier oils, it has anti-inflammatory benefits that soothe irritation.

3. The Perfect Carrier Oil This oil plays beautifully with others! Its stable, long shelf life and lightweight texture make it an ideal carrier oil for essential oils and other botanical ingredients. It helps nutrients penetrate deeper into skin and hair while never going rancid or developing an off smell like some oils do.

A Personal Note:

Both my husband and mum love the coconut oil because you get all the natural Organic benefits without the strong unfamiliar scent. Plus... they HAVE TO support Ahuva... hehe!

Why We Love It:

Fractionated coconut oil embodies what we believe at Ahuva, that wellness isn't one-size-fits-all. While regular coconut oil works beautifully for some, others (especially those with fine hair or oily skin) need something lighter. This oil proves that sometimes, a simple modification can make all the difference for YOUR unique body.

It works.
